II Euro-American Conference for Human Rights’ Development: 2030 Agenda – A New Chapter for the evolution of Human Rights
(CEDH2020)

For whom who has scientific interest in participating, in any type of participation modality, within the scope of the II Euro-American Conference for Human Rights’ Development (CEDH2020), must submit their abstract according to one of the admissible participation formats:

  • Presential Format
  • Online Format
  • Paper submission (without presentation)
  • Roundtable (minimum 4 presentations and up to 6)
  • The abstract can be submitted with one author or with a maximum of 4 authors. In case of having more than one author, the first one will be author and the others, coauthors.
  • Each person could present a maximum of two (2) abstract in each one of the available formats. However, as first author, each participant can only present one (1) abstract, in each modality.
  • Only in exceptional cases, and in accordance with the Organizing Committee of the CEDH2020, this rule can be changed.
  • All submissions, in all modalities, and in all phases, must be original which means that they were never presented or published before.

The official languages of submission and communication within the scope of the CEDH2020 are exclusively Portuguese, English and/or Spanish, and the use of any other languages is not allowed.

  • Proposals can be submitted in any type of the official languages of the CEDH2020 (Portuguese, English or Spanish).
  • The proposal must contain a title, an abstract and 5 (five) keywords.
  • The abstract must not exceed five hundred (500) words.
  • All abstracts must indicate the author and coauthors (when existent), institutional affiliation and the email address.
  • Abstract’s authorship must not exceed the maximum of four (4) persons and must indicate the person who will present at CEDH2020.
  • In case of approved submission with more than one author, all people must register for the conference. The lack of registration of, at least, one of the coauthors does not allow the participation in CEDH2020.
  • Abstracts must be submitted using the template available on the official website of the CEDH2020: www.cedh.pt
  • All submissions, in all modalities, and in all phases, must be original which means that they were never presented or published before.
  • All abstracts will be anonymized and identified through a reference that identifies the work.
  • In all contacts with the organization of the CEDH2020, it is necessary to use the reference assigned to identify the work.
  • The organization confirms the receipt of the abstract up to two (2) working days after the submission deadline.
  • The organization has the right to make abstract suggestions within ten (10) working days from the submission deadline.
  • The organization has the right to decline the proposal abstract up to twenty (20) business days from the deadline for submission, exclusively by e-mail.
  • The organization sends the final acceptance of the abstract up to thirty (30) working days after the submission deadline.
  • After accepting the abstract, all authors and coauthors must register according to their status (authorship or co-authorship) and participation format (presential, online, roundtable or publication without presentation).
  • After the confirmation of the registration, the organization of the conference places the names of the authors and coauthors and the title of the proposal in the conference program, accepting the authors and co-authors, automatically, the dissemination of the data.
  • The proposals will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee and the result will be communicated by the Organization within the deadlines described above.
  • The Scientific Committee will evaluate the proposals in accordance with the theme, quality and relevance.
  • The Scientific Committee and the Organization has the right to decline all abstracts that do not meet with the required requirements as well as for reasons related to the organization and logistics of the event.
  • There is no appeal against this decision.
  • All accepted communications will be presented in a room/auditorium within each Working Group (WG) created. These groups intend to specialize the debate, make the session times’ management more flexible and give everyone the opportunity to present their work.
  • Live presentations take place in pitch format, as each participant has a maximum of ten (10) minutes to present their communication.
  • The debate will be held every 3 or 4 interventions and once again before the WG ends.
  • All the files supporting presentations (PowerPoint and other electronic or physical files) must also be sent to the organization of the ECDH2020 until the defined deadline.
  • Every works presented in the CEDH2020 could be published in a publication with Qualis A2 and Web of Science indexing. The submission of the final paper will only be after the event.
  • The final paper will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee and must be written in accordance with the rules for presentation and formatting available in the “Publication” tab.
  • All abstracts submitted and presented could be published in a book of abstracts with a Portuguese ISBN. This publication will take place only after the event.
  • Online presentations take place by submitting a video in mp4 format with a maximum of 10 minutes, which will be published on the conference’s YouTube channel.
  • The video must be sent to the organization of the ECHR2020 until the defined date.
  • Online presentations must follow this methodology: presentation of the theme > methodology > results > conclusions.
  • All videos must start by identifying the authors and the affiliation institutions.
  • Financial support and acknowledgments must be placed at the end of the presentation.
  • The presentation must be sent, ideally, to the CEDH2020 email (cedh2020@cedh.pt). Heavier files could be sent through platforms such as wetransfer.
  • Every works presented in the CEDH2020 could be published in a publication with Qualis A2 and Web of Science indexing. The submission of the final paper will only be after the event.
  • The final paper will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee and must be written in accordance with the rules for presentation and formatting available in the “Publication” tab.
  • All abstracts submitted and presented online could be published in a book of abstracts with a Portuguese ISBN. This publication will take place only after the event.
  • Roundtables can be proposed for a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 abstracts with a common topic integrated in the theme of the ECDH2020.
  • Roundtable proposals must be submitted with all the interventions proposed (within the limits referred before) and must identify a maximum of 2 coordinators, providing names, institutional affiliations and contact emails.
  • The presentation of the works takes place in pitch format, so each participant has a maximum limit of ten (10) minutes to present the communication.
  • The organization of the debate and interventions is under the responsibility of the Roundtable’ Coordination, as well as the time management available for each presentation.
  • All the files supporting presentations (PowerPoint and other electronic or physical elements) must also be sent to the organization of the ECDH2020 until the defined deadline.
  • Every works presented in the CEDH2020 could be published in a publication with Qualis A2 and Web of Science indexing. The submission of the final paper will only be after the event.
  • The final paper will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee and must be written in accordance with the rules for presentation and formatting available in the “Publication” tab.
  • All abstracts submitted and presented could be published in a book of abstracts with a Portuguese ISBN. This publication will take place only after the event.
  • People who is interested in publishing their work without presenting on the CEDH2020 must submit an abstract during the regularly call for abstract’s submission period.
  • Once the abstract is approved, the full paper must be submitted, in accordance with the formatting rules of the publication, until the deadline for submitting final papers.
  • All abstracts submitted and approved in publication format (without presentation) will be published in a book of abstracts with Portuguese ISBN. This publication will take place after the event.
  • The paper will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee and must be written in accordance with the rules for presentation and formatting available in the “Publication” section.
  • All abstract approved within this modality and regularly registered may be published in the form of a paper with Qualis A2 and Web of Science indexing after the event.
  • Abstracts will be published in a book of abstracts with a Portuguese ISBN.
  • The final papers (in all modalities) will be published as a scientific papers format in an publication indexed with QUALIS A2 and Web of Science.
  • All submissions, in all modalities and in all phases, must be original which means that they were never presented or published before.
  • All papers must be identified with the identifying reference assigned in the submission process.
  • The author’s identification must not be revealed directly or indirectly throughout the paper.
  • Author information must be included in an additional document that must include name, address, telephone number, e-mail contact, academic titles, current institutional affiliation.
  • The title, abstract and keywords of the article must also be presented in two versions: one in the main idiom (Portuguese, English or Spanish) and a second in a secondary language (English or Spanish, when the main idiom is Portuguese), in English when the predominant idiom is Spanish or in Portuguese or Spanish, when the official language of the article is English).
  • All articles must contain an abstract with a maximum of 300 words.
  • The abstract must be analytical (with the objectives, its content and its results).
  • A list of 5 keywords must be included in the abstract.
  • On the first page, when existing, it must be indicated if the research is a result of a specific fund.
  • Each paper should not exceed 18,000 words, including abstract, footnotes and references.
  • The paper must not exceed 30 to 32 pages.
  • The article must be send in an editable format (.docx /.doc /.odt). Papers in PDF format or any other in which editing is not possible will not be considered.
  • Page size: Letter / US Letter (261mm x 279mm)
  • Margins: Top: 3cm, Bottom: 3cm, Left: 3cm and Right: 3cm. (3x3x3x3)
  • Page numbers: upper right position in Arabic numbering
  • Font: The text must be presented in Arial font, indented by 12 points.
  • Alignment: Justified.
  • Spacing: Single spacing (before 0pts. and then 0 pts.)
  • Tabulation: the text must have a double paragraph between each paragraph and without tabulation.
  • Subdivisions of the text (chapters, subsections, etc.): they must be numbered with Arabic numerals, except for the introduction, conclusion and references.
  • The titles of the subdivisions must be in bold and the use of capital letters must be exclusive to the initials of the proper names (names of countries, documents, persons, etc.).
  • The use of italic format should be limited Latin terms and foreign words.
  • The first time an abbreviation is used, it must be placed in parentheses after the text. Then, only the abbreviation should be used.
  • The author can quote text of his/her own authorship, as long as he/she does not mention this fact, proceeding to the normal reference.
  • References must appear in a footnote in accordance with the rules for footnote references.
  • Long quotes (with more than four lines) should be placed in long form, with quotation marks, single space, in size 11 and 3 cm forward.
  • Citations in a foreign language, in addition to quotation marks, must be in italic.
  • Tables, graphs, illustrations, photographs and maps must be referenced and explained in the text.
  • They must also be titled, numbered sequentially and accompanied by the image. Notes and source (s) must be placed immediately after the paragraph in which they are referred.
  • Images must be presented in high quality digital format (JPG or TIFF 300 and 240 DPI). Obtaining authorization for publishing images is under the responsibility of the author.
  • References of the citations must appear at the end of the page.
  • Numbering: Footnotes must be numbered in Arabic format.
  • Formatting: Footnotes must have the Arial font, indented by 10 points and single spacing.
  • The adopted footnote reference style is adapted to the Chicago Manual of Style, Humanities Style, version, and must be presented according to the following rules:

  • Do not use: Ibid., ibídem, cfr., or op. cit.
  • References of the article must be placed at the end of the article.
  • Reference format: Arial font, indented by 11 points and with single space.
  • The bibliography must be organized alphabetically according to the first surname.
  • Primary and secondary sources must be distinguished. Primary sources must include: archives, periodicals or monographs.
  • References norms adopted are an adaptation to the Chicago Manual of Style, in the Humanities Style version, and must be presented according to the following rules:
    • Book:

  2. All texts received will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee using the double-blind peer review evaluation methodology.
  3. The result is communicated individually by the Organization, via email.
  4. The Scientific Committee can recommend changes to the text, making its acceptance under a double-blind peer review.
  5. In case of failure in complying with the rules established in these guidelines, the article will not be accepted.
  6. There is no appeal against this decision.

*Registration withdrawal will be accepted until 20th September 2020 and the authors will be refund of 50% of the amount of the registration fee paid.
After this date, the withdrawal does not confer the right to refund any amount without a reason under the responsibility of the organization of the ECHR2020.
Deadlines can be changed for justified reasons, and participants will always be informed of this change.

The Organization of the CEDH2020 is not responsible for the failure in receiving electronic correspondence, as this does not constitute a deadline extension for any kind of issue.

CEDH2020 Participation:

  • In each modality with an approved abstract, participants must pay one (1) fee for person:
    1. Regardless the role assumed (Author, Coauthor or Participation without presentation).
    2. Regardless the number of approved abstracts.
  • When the same person has one (1) approved abstract as author and other as coauthor within the same modality:
    1. The fee to be applied will be for Author within the modality approved.
  • * Registration withdrawal will be accepted until 20th September 2020 and the authors will be refund of 50% of the amount of the registration fee paid.
  • After this date, the withdrawal does not confer the right to refund any amount without a reason under the responsibility of the organization of the CEDH2020.

There are (5) five grants to be awarded for abstract proposals submitted with a single author.
Interested participants must attach a motivation letter and CV to their abstract. The grant only applies to the registration fee.The grant is only applied to the registration fee and only in the form of presential format.

Evaluation Guidelines:

    • Quality of the proposal;
    • Motivation Letter;
    • CV (Priority will be given to emerging researchers);
    • Collaboration with CEDH2020 organization.
  • Only the presented Works will have the certificates in modality 1, 2 and 3.
  • Coordinators of the Roundtables will also have certificate.
  • All registered persons will have certificate of participation as listeners during the CEDH2020 with a workload of 10 hours.
  • For participants registered under the “publication without participation” modality, there is no certificate. The publication, when available, is itself the acceptance proof.
  • All certificates are issued in Portuguese.

The conference accepts papers on case studies, literature review, empirical, qualitative or quantitative methodologies, on models, processes and/or institutions which focus on the work and industry as motor of economic and social progress.

The conference accepts papers on case studies, literature review, empirical, qualitative or quantitative methodologies, on models, processes and/or institutions which focus on tranversal integration, and mobilization for the most vulnerable groups.

The conference accepts papers on case studies, literature review, empirical, qualitative or quantitative methodologies, on models, processes and/or institutions which focus on promoting peaceful, fair and inclusive societies, free from fear and violence.
